AGE of Central Texas to Host Inaugural “She Thrives: The Art of Aging” Event in November
DEK: Events on November 9th and 11th dedicated to equipping women of all ages with resources and support around aging and caregiving
AUSTIN, TX: AGE of Central Texas will host the first annual She Thrives: The Art of Aging (She Thrives) events on November 9th and November 11th, 2021. The virtual and in-person event is dedicated to equipping women of all ages and backgrounds with resources, information, and support on matters related to mental health and wellness, aging and caregiving, and financial and legal health. The event will include a half day summit supported by St. David’s Foundation and a corresponding fundraising dinner presented by H-E-B Texas Grocery.
The Summit, scheduled for November 9th, aims to acknowledge the unique experiences that women encounter as they age, facilitate healthy and honest conversations about these experiences, and provide a community of support that allows women to make the best decisions for themselves and for their loved ones. The event is rooted in a deep belief that when the woman thrives, the community thrives. Tickets are on sale now for $20.
“AGE is a leader in addressing the needs of older adults and caregivers in Central Texas,” said Andrew Levack, MPH, Senior Program Officer for St. David’s Foundation. “One such example is the She Thrives Summit, which takes proactive measures to help women as they manage what is often a disproportionate burden of family caregiving duties. St. David’s Foundation is proud to support this new venture, which aligns with our commitment to engage the community on aging issues.”
The Dinner, scheduled for November 11th, will be Emceed by Kim and Mike Barnes and feature keynote speaker Kate Washington, the author of Already Toast: Caregiving and Burnout In America. Kate will share her observations of the role unpaid family caregivers play in a society that fails to provide them with structural support as seen through her own harrowing caregiving experience. Attendees will enjoy Kate’s keynote address, as well as a plated dinner, followed by live entertainment by music icon Marcia Ball. Tickets are on sale now for $150.
All funds raised by She Thrives will go toward supporting AGE’s caregiver support services, which include emotional support groups, caregiver education classes, consultations with AGE’s expert staff, and respite so that caregivers can take needed breaks from their responsibilities.
“Data shows that women are the predominant caregivers in our society, but they remain ill equipped and underprepared for their caregiving journeys,” said Suzanne Anderson, AGE’s Executive Director. “This lack of preparedness can significantly impact a woman’s mental, physical, and financial health as she herself ages. AGE is proud to work with the St. David’s Foundation and H-E-B to bring all of the women in our community an event designed to offer community and support.”
Tickets for both the She Thrives Summit and Dinner are available online atwww.AgeSheThrives.org.
