Who We Are
Founded in 1950 by a group of parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, The Arc has been instrumental in the creation of virtually every program, service, right, and benefit that is now available to more than half a million Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Today, The Arc continues to advocate for including people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in all aspects of society.
Mission: to promote, protect, and advocate for the human rights and self-determination of Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Vision: is to envision a world where Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities are included in their communities where quality supports and services are available to meet their needs and choices.
What We Do
The Arc of Texas advocates on behalf of individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. In addition to influencing legislation, The Arc also sponsors the only inclusion education conference in Texas that is dedicated to improving special education outcomes statewide through the annual "Inclusion Works!" conference for school administrators, teachers, and parents of individuals with disabilities. In addition, The Arc advocates for individuals with disabilities by raising funds and awareness through events such as Wings for All, Pathways to Justice, Transition Works, and our new program- the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
