Who We Are
Foster Grandparent volunteers are adults 55 and older who provide one-on-one emotional support, mentoring and tutoring to children with exceptional needs in eight service areas across Texas.
Foster Grandparent volunteers are not the same as foster parents — the children do not live with you. You are a role model, mentor and friend. You will meet your mentee at a designated organization such as a public school, childcare center, Head Start program, hospital, juvenile correction facility or any other child centered agency.
What We Do
Volunteers complete an application, background check, fingerprinting and 20 hours of training. Volunteers serve 15-40 hours a week and receive a stipend and mileage reimbursement. Volunteers might read to little ones, tutor or mentor older students or spend time helping out in the library, greeting children as they arrive for the day. There is an unlimited amount of opportunities at our Volunteer locations.
