We are in need of volunteers to provide companionship to hospice patients in the Highland Lakes area. Clients may receive care in their private home or in a long-term care community such as Assisted Living or Memory Care. 

Volunteer based on your schedule---1 hour a day, a week or a month!

Share your time with someone who will benefit from your companionship. Whether you read to someone, look at photos, enjoy beautiful weather, work on an art project, or just visit with them, you will feel a sense of pride knowing that you made a difference in the life of a hospice patient or their loved ones!

Garden Volunteer Opportunities at Round Rock Area Serving Center:

The Serving Center is looking for volunteers that either know how to grow fruits and vegetables, or would like to learn under our Williamson County Master Gardeners.  Volunteers meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 9-11 (weather permitting), and the 1st Saturday of every month (except April), also from 9-11.  You can come as often as you like and you don't need to stay the whole 2 hours either.  If you just want to come for an hour and harvest, that's great.

Our gardens provide about 5000 pounds of fresh, organic produce to the food pantry every year and we teach and assist 5 client families to manage their own beds at the garden.  We have 47 raised vegetable beds and a small orchard with blackberries, grapes, figs, pears, pomegranates, mulberries and this year we are installing a raspberry bed.

No experience required, but it does help to enjoy being outside.  Here's what you can learn or teach:  soil preparation, planting seeds and transplants, pest control, fertilizing, harvesting, weed control, composting and greenhouse management.

Volunteers will register for one-hour volunteer sessions, reading with two children for 30 minutes each. During Reading Allstars virtual sessions volunteers listen to participants read, ask questions, and offer strategies for reading help. Reading Allstars virtual sessions will take place on Zoom.  

Individuals interested in volunteering will need a laptop or computer, an understanding of Zoom, and the ability to share their screen while volunteering.

All volunteers must be 18+, clear a background check, and complete training video prior to their registration being approved. One-time volunteers are welcome with the hopes that each volunteer will sign-up weekly or at least bi-weekly.

Two PT staff members will be on every Zoom session to ensure the safety of the participants and to offer assistance to the volunteers.

The Round Rock Area Serving Center is a Texas non-profit corporation, also known as the Serving Center, which carries out a community-wide mission of churches, other organizations and individuals serving human needs in the City of Round Rock and surrounding areas. We are here to serve those in need in our community.

For over 35+ years the Round Rock Area Serving Center has been a resource in our community – reaching families and individuals in crisis and serving their needs with assistance, care and support.

Services provided include a food pantry, Amazon home delivery program, clothing & furniture vouchers, Keep Round Rock Warm, community gardens, The Volunteer Center, a charity resale store, Computers for Kids, and financial assistance for utilities, rent, prescriptions, payday loan assistance, transportation, and temporary lodging.

We currently need volunteers to help with our client services. Training will be provided. Client services are located upstairs and volunteers will work with clients over the phone and/or one on one. 

Requirements:

There is a minimum 1 year commitment for this volunteer opportunity. Must be available during the day between the hours of 9am and 4pm or Saturday 9-12pm (shifts available). Computer proficient or eager to learn computer skills not limited to, learning our web based platform, scanning, and uploading paper work to add to client's computer profile. Round Rock Helpers needs volunteers with general around-the-house fix-it skills. The volunteers will visit the residences of Round Rock area seniors or disabled residents to fix concerns identified by the client.

Each Friday morning Round Rock Helpers creates teams of two or more volunteers to visit client residences and perform minor home maintenance tasks. The jobs are selected and scheduled so that all work is completed between 9:00am and noon on Fridays. Typically, three to five teams are formed each week and each team will have two to three clients to visit. The jobs range from air filter and smoke alarm battery replacements to any minor home repair including wheelchair entry ramp construction. Some work is outdoors, and volunteers may select which team they wish to work with every week.

Have you heard the story about the 90 year old woman from Austin who left a pleading note for her neighbor? It was heart wrenching to me. Her note said:

"...Would you consider becoming my friend? I am 90 years old - live alone and all my friends have passed away. I am so lonesome and could just use someone to talk to."

There is no greater gift than the gift of presence. However, many hospice patients have outlived their family and friends or have very little support during their final days. All it takes is an hour or so to make a huge difference in a patient's outlook and quality of life.

Resolutions Hospice is actively seeking Volunteers to visit our patients in area facilities and homes in Cedar Park, Round Rock or Georgetown. Our patients have become isolated and lonely and we need YOU to visit and bring them some happiness! No experience necessary! We are just looking for caring people with smiling faces.

We have 2 main needs:

1) Patient Companionship volunteers who can spend between 30 minutes to 1 hour either weekly or every other week visiting with a patient.

2) Respite volunteers who can spend 1-2 hours either weekly or every other week giving a caregiver a much need break to run errands or just get out of the house.

Volunteering with hospice is flexible and rewarding! We can work around most schedules to find a time and location that fits your availability and match you with a patient close to you.

College students needing volunteer hours are welcome! We just ask that all volunteers are able to visit with patients either once a week or every other week and commit to volunteering for at least 6 months.

City of Round Rock Neighborhood Services partners with Code Enforcement to assist Round Rock citizens with yard maintenance when residents receive a code violation and are unable to resolve the immediate issue due to being elderly, disabled, have a serious illness and/or have served in the US armed forces. We are always looking for volunteers interested in mowing lawns, trimming trees and whacking weeds. We will provide all of the tools and equipment necessary. All you need to do is provide the heart and the muscle.

Teens ages 13-18: DO YOU NEED VOLUNTEER HOURS?  Senior Access has a Teen Van Volunteer Program Monday-Thursday from about 8:45-2:00. Volunteers assist the van driver by helping senior clients get into and out of our van, carry groceries, and talk to the van riders. Serve, laugh and learn with seniors this summer! Select one day a week or days you are available. Training provided. Homeschool families welcome. Volunteer on days school is out or during the summer months. What does it mean to be a volunteer with Senior Access? It means changing someone's life. It means making a difference in ways that impact health and emotional well-being. It means befriending the lonely and the often overlooked segment of our society. And it may even impact you!

What would you do if you could no longer drive? Our clients do not drive and rely on others to be able to leave their homes and go to appointments, get groceries, and other errands.

Volunteer drivers help individuals 60 and older to remain independent and age in their own homes. Be a volunteer driver and help your senior neighbors get to doctor appointments, grocery stores, libraries, beauty salons, etc. Volunteers also needed to complete handyman tasks, and help with light yard work. Providing transportation also helps relieve loneliness and isolation. Be a driver and a friend!

Victim Service Unit

The Victim Services Unit is a division of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. The Victim Services Team is a group of volunteers that are trained in crisis triage for survivors, witnesses, and families who have been traumatized by the experience of death, serious injury, violent crime, or natural disaster.

After the emergency responders (fire, police, and EMS) conduct their initial investigation and complete their reports, they often have other calls they must respond to. Victim Services response teams can remain with victims, survivors, and witnesses in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to assist them with temporary support through the first very difficult hours. Victim Services can hep to get officers and emergency personnel back on the street more quickly and provide support on the scene as well as referrals for other Assistance. The more individuals involved as victim’s advocates, the greater the community impact.

Resolutions Hospice is looking for caring people who are ready to have some fun and spend some time with our patients in Cedar Park or Round Rock.  No experience is necessary - just a kind heart and a great attitude.

The patient support volunteer provides supportive care to patients by reading, playing games, and talking with the patients.

The administrative support volunteer helps making consent packets, answering and directing phone calls, and assists in the day to day operations.

Assist staff with daily tasks and special projects involving the upkeep and daily operation of the 24-hour emergency shelter.  Volunteers regularly interact with residents and can answer the phone, accomplish administrative tasks, and give residents access to storage areas and pantry as needed.

Round Rock Arts is an Arts non-profit in Round Rock, TX who works to support the areas creative community with events, activities and resources.  We are looking to rebuild our Volunteers Team to help carry out this vision.

A Volunteer Coordinator would be a key position within RRA.  We are looking for someone who can start right away and work both remotely and in-person as needed.  They would be the go-to person, with additional assistance, for keeping steady management of volunteers, both potential and existing. Faith in Action has a medical supply closet that is located at a local church in Georgetown, TX. We are looking for a volunteer to help out on Tuesdays and Thursdays every other week. This job would be by appointment only, so you would be in contact with the person in need of an item or someone who wants to donate something. The volunteer would schedule the time to meet at the church. Training would be provided.

The Love Box program provides fostering families (caregivers, children in foster care, and biological/adopted children) with community and holistic support. This wrap-around support enables caregivers to continue to do the important and meaningful work of being foster parents. As a Love Box group, you will be matched with a local foster family based on location, compatibility, and scope of needs. When our families are matched with committed volunteers who show up monthly, parents feel supported and children gain a greater sense of normalcy, relational permanency, and self confidence.

Volunteers seek to build relationships with their family by spending quality time with the whole family: playing games, sharing a meal, and being intentional. They can also create and deliver personal care packages based on current practical needs. We tell our volunteers to think of themselves as the fun “auntie” and “uncle” who visits once a month to bring love, encouragement, and hope. This program requires a one year commitment, but the connections and impact last a lifetime.

We are looking for Volunteers to bring an important part to the hospice care process.

Our Volunteers are made up of men and women who have a heart for providing the human connection.

Some examples of volunteer duties are:

• Providing companionship to a patient and their family

• Being a comforting and supportive presence

• Providing respite time for the patient’s caregivers

​​The heart of the Dare to Dream program is to walk alongside youth as they navigate through life's challenges. The youth in our Dare to Dream program need the wisdom, advice, encouragement, and community that mentors can provide. Mentors meet practical and emotional needs as well as provide guidance through developmental milestones. The goal is for youth to be engaged and to feel supported and equipped to navigate life. A mentor commits to meeting with the youth every other week to set goals and help them achieve their dreams. These relationships will hopefully last a lifetime, but the program is a year commitment. Mentors matched with a high school student are strongly encouraged to stay with the youth until high school graduation.

We tell mentors that the simple act of telling their youth “I believe in you,” “You are special,” and “You are going to do great things” can change their path completely.

We need back-up, fill-in helpers to work occasional Monday or Friday morning shift to answer phone and do simple data entry for neighbors coming to the food pantry for groceries. Volunteers do not need to be Catholic to help with this ministry, but we are a Christian spirituality group and we endeavor to be the face of Christ for those we serve.

Alzheimer's Association Community Educators (AACEs) are volunteer public speakers who help raise awareness, provide education and expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs in the community.  AACEs deliver Alzheimer’s Association Core Curriculum using prepared training materials on topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias as well as information for individuals and families impacted by the disease.

Resolutions Hospice is looking for caring people who can visit with sweet and kind hospice patients in Kyle, Bertram, Lampasas, South Austin, Round Rock and Taylor.  Our patients love visitors and due to their terminal illness, many become lonely and isolated.  No experience is necessary - we provide a short training session and any supplies you may use while visiting with patients. 

All you need is 30 minutes to an hour once a week or every other week to truly change someone's life.  Volunteering with hospice is flexible and easy!  We can work with almost ANY schedule!

The Austin Steam Train Association is looking for volunteers to meet and greet passengers on our train excursions Saturdays and Sundays into the Hill Country.

We welcome volunteers from every background to spend one Saturday or Sunday a month (or more) visiting with our out of town guests on the train.

Training is easy, the work is vital, and the experience is energizing!

As a volunteer in On Board Services, you'll help passengers find their seats, serve refreshments, and interact with our guests. For the leisurely ride you'll have many opportunities to point out historic landmarks along the line and talk about the history of central Texas railroads. Because our little railroad is world famous, our volunteers are constantly meeting interesting travelers from around the globe!

Volunteers are asked to serve one or more shifts per month on a Saturday or Sunday.  Shifts are 5 - 8 hours in length.

LifeSteps provides court-mandated classes for DWI and DUI offenders.  Most of these offenders have had their license suspended and must pay fines and fees/surcharges through the State's Driver's Responsibility Program. Many of these clients could qualify as indigent and have their surcharges waived. Others could apply for an Occupational Driver's License.  The application process for a waiver or a ODL is complicated. Some technical assistance would be beneficial.  The volunteers assisting would meet with the client (here at LifeSteps).  The meeting would be to: 

LifeSteps' Round Rock office would appreciate help with janitorial tasks.  Involves wiping down classroom tables, vacuuming classroom and office spaces, dusting, cleaning windows and doors, bathroom cleaning, taking out trash.  

Resolutions Hospice is actively seeking a veteran from any branch of the military to visit with our terminally ill patients who are also veterans in Georgetown, Round Rock and North Austin.  Volunteers with provide some much needed companionship and emotional support.

Resolutions Hospice is looking for someone in Round Rock who can bring church to our patients at a small facility. NO experience is necessary.  You do not have to be a minister or have seminary experience.  Just a kind heart and willingness to serve.  The patients really enjoy listening to hymns (CD's are great but bonus if you can play an instrument or sing!) and hearing passages from the bible with a short message or discussion.

The day of the week is flexible.  The best times are either at 10am or right after lunch.  It can be held weekly or every other week.  They are VERY flexible.

Join our Museum Docent volunteers in Georgetown! These volunteers are a crucial part of The Williamson Museum's mission. As a docent/greeter, you will be the first person to welcome visitors when they enter the museum; be a hub of knowledge to guide them through exhibits; assist with maintaining the museum exhibit areas; and help the museum maintain visitor statistics. We seek energetic and passionate storytellers of all ages to fill this role.

Typical greeter hours are Wednesday-Friday from 12:00-5:00, and Saturday from 10:00-5:00 in 2.5 hour shifts.

Many greeters also help with special events such as First Friday on Georgetown's historic square, when the museum is open until 9:00pm.

Courthouse tour guides give guided tours of the historic County Courthouse every Friday and Saturday at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30, and we are looking for more tour guides to join our team! Our greatest need is currently Friday tour guides.

Constructed in 1910, the historic courthouse marks the middle of Georgetown's historic town square. Landmark trials such as Dan Moody's famous 1923 prosecution of a Ku Klux Klan member have occured there, and it's architecture reflects the Beaux-Arts style of the early 20th century.

As a Costumed Interpreter, the volunteer will portray real people who lived in and near the Museum’s historic buildings at 8 Chisholm Trail as part of the Museum’s Living History programming.

Costumed volunteers may assist in a wide variety of activities such as gardening and grounds keeping, cooking, and daily household tasks (candle making, housekeeping, sewing, etc.) in order to engage visitors. Other opportunities could include giving educational programs in period costume (see Education Presenters).

Volunteers should be comfortable with public speaking or acting, passionate about education, and have an interest in history. Living History volunteers are provided period clothing and training, with the option of shadowing other volunteers. Volunteers will be trained in first person interpretation.

Do you enjoy working with kids? Learning and sharing local history? Join our education team and present history to schools, home school groups, and other organizations. In 2018, our educational programs reached 14,000 local students!

Volunteer presenters lead a guided conversation using the artifacts provided to make history come alive. Each presentation is 30 minutes long and can take place at the school or at the museum during a field trip.

Scheduling is Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9am and 3pm as needed. Volunteers should be comfortable with public speaking and working with children, passionate about education, and have an interest in history. Being able to lift up to 50lbs is helpful, but not expected. Ideal for retired teachers.

Education Volunteers will receive training materials and have the option of shadowing other volunteers before conducting an education program.

We have various print materials that are sent to businesses throughout our daily travels.  If you would like to pick up some of our materials and in the line of your daily travels leave our literature in these business facilities that would help us out a great deal.

We provide a half day training is to all volunteers, with two options for convenience, one during business hours, and a separate training on the 1st Saturday of each month. We also provide TB testing and CPR certification free of charge to all volunteers.

You will get plenty of exercise, have the pleasure of meeting other animal lovers, and have fun caring for dogs and cats that will shower you with love and attention because they appreciate the time, love, and energy you give them.

We are looking for dog walkers for AM and PM shifts, seven days a week. Some volunteers come in once or twice a week; others come in once or twice a month. The amount of time you give to our shelter family is entirely up to you.

What's involved: Our dogs are walked three times a day starting at 7am, 11am and 5pm. We have a secluded trail through a wooded area that leads to a dead-end gravel road. You will get to spend one-on-one time with each dog that will help them learn proper leash manners, give them some socialization opportunities to meet new people, and can maybe even teach them a few tricks to help them get adopted quicker!

All dogwalkers must be at least 18 years old. NO EXCEPTIONS.

You will get plenty of exercise, have the pleasure of meeting other animal lovers, and have fun caring for dogs that will shower you with love and attention because they appreciate the time, love, and energy you give them.

We are flexible and can work around your schedule. Some volunteers come in once or twice a week; others come in once or twice a month. The amount of time you give to our shelter family is entirely up to you. There are 2 shifts - Morning (any time between 7am and 1pm) and Afternoon (any time between 5pm and 8pm). The shifts usually take less than 2 hours but if you desire to help more we won't say no! Duties may include helping to feed dogs and cleaning, among others.

All dog caregivers must be at least 18 years old. NO EXCEPTIONS.

We need people to attend off-site adoption events around the Lago Vista/Cedar Park/North Austin area. Duties would include transporting animals, crates, tables, etc; holding dogs; talking to the public. Weekly, bi-monthly, and monthly schedules offer 6-8 hours of rewarding experiences. Preferences for cat or dog adoptions are accommodated.
