Volunteer: Music Mentors

Kids In A New Groove (KING) provides private, in-home, music instruction to Central Texas youth in foster care, allowing them to gain the benefits of one-on-one mentorship, as well as the skills and creativity that come with music. KING’s program combines the power of mentoring with music instruction.

The program is successful because of the dedicated music mentors who give their time and share their passion for music with our youth. As one music mentor said: “She credits music with helping to give her the confidence to be herself, to express herself, and to find herself. I credit her with reminding me how powerful it is to share music with others”

We are always seeking new volunteers to make a lasting impact on a child’s life and pass along their artistic skills in the most meaningful way. Please visit our website to learn more: www.kidsinanewgroove.org.

Volunteer: Walking With Wags

You will get plenty of exercise, have the pleasure of meeting other animal lovers, and have fun caring for dogs and cats that will shower you with love and attention because they appreciate the time, love, and energy you give them.

We are looking for dog walkers for AM and PM shifts, seven days a week. Some volunteers come in once or twice a week; others come in once or twice a month. The amount of time you give to our shelter family is entirely up to you.

What's involved: Our dogs are walked three times a day starting at 7am, 11am and 5pm. We have a secluded trail through a wooded area that leads to a dead-end gravel road. All dogwalkers must be at least 18 years old. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Many other volunteer opportunities are available, including fund-raising, public relations, assisting at adoption events, and fostering. For more information on volunteering, please visit our website at www.lifelongfriends.org , or call 512-267-6876.

Volunteer: Make A Difference - MENTOR A Student In RRISD

Round Rock ISD is looking for mentors at all campuses.  Pick a campus that is close to your work or home and make a difference in a child's life.  To become a mentor volunteers must complete an online volunteer application and attend a one hour training class.  Mentors meet 30 minutes a week during a student's lunch time and follow the school calendar.

Career mentoring is now an option for professionals that would like to help a student explore all aspects of their chosen profession.  Many students already know the career path they would like to take so we are matching professionals with those students to help explore that job and the path they need to take to get into that career.

If you are interested in helping change a student's life by mentoring please contact Dawn Steele at dawn_steele@roundrockisd.org.

You can help by donating diapers and wipes to the bank.

Description

Kindred Hospice is a team of professionals who provide care to patients and their families with end of life needs. As a key member of the team, our volunteers expand and enhance the quality of life of our patients. Requirements

All patient care volunteers must be at least 18 years old, valid driver's license and complete the application. Successful background check and TB test also required (provided at Kindred's expense). Training is provided prior to first assignment orienting volunteers to the hospice philosophy, and expectations of the volunteer position.

Volunteer: Hospice Companion: Williamson, Burnet and surrounding areas

It is the end of the year and it is time to give back!

We are looking for wonderful Hospice Companions and you could be one with as little as a few hours a month! Would you like to work in an individual's home or a facility? Would you like to play games or help write biographies? Do you like to sit and enjoy the silence or read out loud to someone with impaired vision? Are you a Veteran who would enjoy chatting with other Veterans?

We offer a variety of exepriences with patients in different locations with individualized needs and all would benefit from having you enter their life! We have had many volunteers enrich their life with our team and if you believe in the Hospice Mission and Palliative Care, please contact us today!!!

Recent success stories of volunteers:

Two books were written and one published with different patients from a previously inexperienced volunteer. This volunteer has become so experienced and valued with our team and the families of the patients that he was a key speaker at the memorial of his patient.

Many volunteers become deeply connected with families and stay in contact, exchange Holiday cards and help the family with difficult transitions.

Audiobooks have been delivered and improved the quality of life of a patient to the point where all staff noticed how much happier the patient had become. The individual attention that the volunteer provided made the patient open up that they missed reading so they filled the need with audiobooks.

Weekly Bingo to keep a social butterfly involved in the community and less focused on their health.

These are just examples that we have going on currently and would love to have more patients experience similar acts of love and comfort with thoughtful people like you! Contact us today!

Volunteer: Team/Group Volunteer Opportunities

The Thinkery loves working with group volunteers.  We believe in our volunteers, their ideas and impact. Our volunteers allow us to deliver the quality and quantity of programs needed to serve Central Texas. All volunteers receive training to empower them in their roles at the Thinkery.

For starters, please start by filling out our group volunteer application:

https://thinkeryaustin.org/support-us/volunteer/organization/

At the Thinkery, we actively encourage participation from corporate foundations and community involvement groups. Group volunteers play an integral role in the Thinkery’s success while helping to build team spirit at your organization. The museum can work with groups, ranging in size for a variety of placements. The schedule we offer can be tailored to your needs, and do not necessarily require working directly with youth.

We have lots of fun options for group volunteerism:

For some groups, what tends to work best is a behind-the-scenes material preparation project. A lot of our exhibits and programs involve activities that require materials. This kind of projects lends itself well to networking and team-building. Projects may also involve things like: cutting out shapes, folding brochures or shirts, inventory of items, sorting legos etc.  Also, we work with groups for outreach events too. We often have activities tables set up at community events where we partner volunteers with staff to help facilitate fun activities with kids. These events tend to take place on weekends. This is a fun way to help out if your team wants to do something working more directly with kids.  Camp- Groups can come spend at day at camp! Volunteers would be assisting in thematic camps for pre-K to 5th graders, by helping to lead STEAM activities and going on field trips!  Scout Night- Volunteers will be assisting staff to lead STEAM activities with scouts. For more info about this program: http://thinkeryaustin.org/scout-nights/.  Family Nights- Exciting new program! This will be a fun family event with various themes. Volunteers will be assisting staff and helping to lead activities with kids and families. For more info about this program: https://thinkeryaustin.org/programs-events/special-events/. Volunteers must be 18+ and will be asked to acknowledge our alcohol policy. Another fun opportunity is to help out at our adult night, Thinkery21. Volunteers would be assisting with activities in the museum with adults. Volunteers must be 21 or older, and are not permitted to drink at the event. ONGOING: Birthday Parties – we host over 30 birthday parties each week. Volunteers are extremely helpful in making the parties a rockin’ good time. Groups (3-8 people) can sign up for a birthday shift on the weekend. The volunteers will be split up into 4 parties. Volunteers will be assisting staff with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities during the parties, with guests and families. Interested? Email Dana to find out about dates and times that are open. Volunteers must be 18+ We can also chat about ways to tailor a project to the skill set of your team! Also, you may be interested in our Steam on the Spot program as well: http://thinkeryaustin.org/programs-events/steam-on-the-spot/

If you would like, I would be happy to take you on a tour of the facility and talk in person about potential volunteer projects. Once I know more about what projects your team is most interested in, I can follow up with you about upcoming needs or work with you to line up a date.

Do you love talking to people on the telephone? Would you like to be a friendly voice to a terminally ill patient and family? Then you would enjoy volunteering as a Compassionate Caller. If interested, please e-mail kassie.leslie@hospicecom.com or call 512-535-8268.
