Join our Museum Docent volunteers in Georgetown! These volunteers are a crucial part of The Williamson Museum's mission. As a docent/greeter, you will be the first person to welcome visitors when they enter the museum; be a hub of knowledge to guide them through exhibits; assist with maintaining the museum exhibit areas; and help the museum maintain visitor statistics. We seek energetic and passionate storytellers of all ages to fill this role.

Typical greeter hours are Wednesday-Friday from 12:00-5:00, and Saturday from 10:00-5:00 in 2.5 hour shifts.

Many greeters also help with special events such as First Friday on Georgetown's historic square, when the museum is open until 9:00pm.

Courthouse tour guides give guided tours of the historic County Courthouse every Friday and Saturday at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30, and we are looking for more tour guides to join our team! Our greatest need is currently Friday tour guides.

Constructed in 1910, the historic courthouse marks the middle of Georgetown's historic town square. Landmark trials such as Dan Moody's famous 1923 prosecution of a Ku Klux Klan member have occured there, and it's architecture reflects the Beaux-Arts style of the early 20th century.

As a Costumed Interpreter, the volunteer will portray real people who lived in and near the Museum’s historic buildings at 8 Chisholm Trail as part of the Museum’s Living History programming.

Costumed volunteers may assist in a wide variety of activities such as gardening and grounds keeping, cooking, and daily household tasks (candle making, housekeeping, sewing, etc.) in order to engage visitors. Other opportunities could include giving educational programs in period costume (see Education Presenters).

Volunteers should be comfortable with public speaking or acting, passionate about education, and have an interest in history. Living History volunteers are provided period clothing and training, with the option of shadowing other volunteers. Volunteers will be trained in first person interpretation.

Do you enjoy working with kids? Learning and sharing local history? Join our education team and present history to schools, home school groups, and other organizations. In 2018, our educational programs reached 14,000 local students!

Volunteer presenters lead a guided conversation using the artifacts provided to make history come alive. Each presentation is 30 minutes long and can take place at the school or at the museum during a field trip.

Scheduling is Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9am and 3pm as needed. Volunteers should be comfortable with public speaking and working with children, passionate about education, and have an interest in history. Being able to lift up to 50lbs is helpful, but not expected. Ideal for retired teachers.

Education Volunteers will receive training materials and have the option of shadowing other volunteers before conducting an education program.

Kids In A New Groove (KING) provides private, in-home, music instruction to Central Texas youth in foster care, allowing them to gain the benefits of one-on-one mentorship, as well as the skills and creativity that come with music. KING’s program combines the power of mentoring with music instruction. 

The program is successful because of the dedicated music mentors who give their time and share their passion for music with our youth. A volunteer can make a significant impact on the remaining days of a person's life.  Baking cookies, singing songs, reciting scripture, reading books, taking for walks, flipping through photo albums, are all things we encourage our volunteers to participate in and all things that make an enormous difference in our patients lives. 

We are looking for a small commitment of 2-3 hours per week.  As a Hospice provider, we would be honored for any volunteer to join our compassionate team.  We look forward to meeting you.

Unsure about what hospice is or if it is a good fit for you?

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica Santos, welcomes you to reach out and learn more about the comfort and compassion hospice has to offer. No hospice or medical experience is required. We provide a half day training is to all volunteers, with two options for convenience, one during business hours, and a separate training on the 1st Saturday of each month. We also provide TB testing and CPR certification free of charge to all volunteers.

Volunteering with Altus is extremely flexible, some volunteers serve as little as one hour every two weeks, while others serve up to 10 hours per week. Volunteer opportunities are available 7 days a week between 8 am-7 pm

When you begin volunteering with Altus you will be matched to a patient that lives in your area of town (or goal is to never make you drive more than 15 minutes) and is hoping to make a new friend. If you would enjoy making a difference in the lives of homeless animals, then we are the place for you! You will get plenty of exercise, have the pleasure of meeting other animal lovers, and have fun caring for dogs and cats that will shower you with love and attention because they appreciate the time, love, and energy you give them.

We are looking for dog walkers for AM and PM shifts, seven days a week. Some volunteers come in once or twice a week; others come in once or twice a month. The amount of time you give to our shelter family is entirely up to you.

What's involved: Our dogs are walked three times a day starting at 7am, 11am and 5pm. We have a secluded trail through a wooded area that leads to a dead-end gravel road. You will get to spend one-on-one time with each dog that will help them learn proper leash manners, give them some socialization opportunities to meet new people, and can maybe even teach them a few tricks to help them get adopted quicker!

All dogwalkers must be at least 18 years old. NO EXCEPTIONS.

We need people to attend off-site adoption events around the Lago Vista/Cedar Park/North Austin area. Duties would include transporting animals, crates, tables, etc; holding dogs; talking to the public. Weekly, bi-monthly, and monthly schedules offer 6-8 hours of rewarding experiences. Preferences for cat or dog adoptions are accommodated. 

Round Rock ISD is looking for mentors at all campuses.  Pick a campus that is close to your work or home and make a difference in a child's life.  To become a mentor volunteers must complete an online volunteer application and attend a one hour training class.  Mentors meet 30 minutes a week during a student's lunch time and follow the school calendar. 

Career mentoring is now an option for professionals that would like to help a student explore all aspects of their chosen profession.  Many students already know the career path they would like to take so we are matching professionals with those students to help explore that job and the path they need to take to get into that career.

The Georgetown Palace Theatre's Education Department is looking for volunteers to greet visitors and answer phones from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm on Mondays - Fridays. We are looking for warm and friendly folks who are passionate about the theatre and the development of our community's youth. All volunteers will be briefed on answers to frequently asked questions and will be trained on our online registration system in order to best serve our customers. Other office tasks may be assigned (such as organizing scripts and music for the kids) by the Director of Education. 

Volunteers will be issued two complementary tickets to a Palace production and/or registration to a Palace Academy class for a student for every month worked in the Education Office. 

Creative individuals needed in the Hutto area to help us develop our 3 year program roll-out plan for the Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation. The Program Committee oversees new program development, as well as monitors and assess existing programs. They initiate and guide program evaluations based on how well the program fits within the Mission and Strategic Plan of the organization. 

We are in need of ongoing support for our diaper bank. Our Early Childhood Intervention program supports families with a medically fragile or developmentally delayed baby. Often our families may struggle with financial need due to their little one's many needs. We established the diaper bank as a way to help these families during times of crisis. You can help by donating diapers and wipes to the bank. 

We need volunteers to help provide baby blankets to our babies enrolled in ECI.  Each year at our Cookies with Santa celebration we provide each little one with a blanket.  These can be quilts, crochet, knitted, or purchased. We also have the need at times throughout the year.  Blankets can be delivered to Bluebonnet Trails ECI located at 1009 North Georgetown St. Round Rock.  If you need more information you can call Kathy Rainer at 512-244-8250. 

Resolutions Hospice is looking for caring people who can visit with sweet and kind hospice patients in Kyle,  Georgetown and Hutto.  Our patients love visitors and due to their terminal illness, many become lonely and isolated.  No experience is necessary - we provide a short training session and any supplies you may use while visiting with patients. 

All you need is 30 minutes to an hour once a week or every other week to truly change someone's life.  Volunteering with hospice is flexible and easy!  We can work with almost ANY schedule!

Our Bluebonnet Trails babies are in need of toys, art materials, tactile materials for our special group classes. Some of the items in need are simple wooden puzzles - with sound is great, washable fingerpaints, musical instruments ( bells, drums, cymbals ) stacking toys, sorting toys, blocks, sponges, Fisher Price cash register, simple books ( Brown Bear, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, My First Words, Good Night Moon, etc.,)  colorful tissue paper, large parmesan cheese bottles, baby wipe containers, large colorful pompoms ( 1-2 inch) glue sticks, bottled glue, orange juice lids, plastic Halloween pumpkin,  plastic tweezers, washable markers, pop up toys, play doh, non-spill bubbles.  Please keep in mind these are for 2 year olds.

If you have time to spare and a heart for service, we'd love to have you join our volunteer team at Seton Williamson!  Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.  Volunteers serve in many areas of the hospital including Information Desk, Gift Shop, Mammography, Physical Therapy, and Emergency Department. 

Volunteers serve a 4 hour shift each week and a minimum of 6 consecutive months.  Shifts are available 7 days a week.

As a Hospice Patient/Family Support Volunteer you will serve as a friend/companion to a patient and provide support to the patient and family. There is a variety of ways a Hospice Patient/Family Support Volunteer can help, for instance, reading to the patient, writing letters for the patient, playing music and singing with the patient, helping with laundry, light housekeeping, running errands or being there while the family caretaker takes a break. 

We have openings for volunteers to help us catalog and document the artifacts that have been donated to the Williamson Museum.  We schedule regular sessions, usually 2-3 hours during a weekday to process our artifacts.  This is perfect for anyone who loves antiques and values what they represent.  It is easy, sit down work and is a great way to meet like minded folks.  Come on down and see what treasures we have in our vault!

Volunteers needed to adopt a local police department on behalf of MADD. Groups can provide a meal, snacks, monthly birthday party, etc. to law enforcement departments within MADD's service area as a way to recognize officers' efforts and promote the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving and Victim Services. Recognition is especially needed in outlying counties. MADD will provide staff business cards, victim services brochures, and other MADD services materials. This can be done for police, sheriff, highway patrol, TABC, etc. Special interest for this in Travis county, but all Central Texas areas are welcome!

MADD's Speakers Bureau is a voluntary opportunity to work at the grass-roots level to speak to community groups, law enforcement agencies, interested parties, etc. about the dangers of impaired and drunk driving. This program is grant-funded by the Texas Department of Transportation and is a combined effort to reduce impaired driving crashes, injuries and fatalities in Travis County by pro-actively engaging people in segments of the community and educating and informing all to the dangers of impaired and drunk driving by supporting law enforcement in these efforts.

-Attending or conducting Roll Call Briefings for Law Enforcement

-Supporting Law Enforcement in their efforts to end drunk driving

-Assisting with the Travis County Law Enforcement Recognition Awards luncheon

-Engaging and encouraging ALL segments of the community to join in these efforts

-Attending community coalition meetings

-Attending health and volunteer fairs

-Speaking at community presentations about MADD, drunk driving, and using MADD's Power of Parents Program

¨ Work closely with Volunteer Liaison and local MADD entities to receive assignments, support and direction.

¨ Provide effective and timely assistance to victims/survivors who contact MADD by answering telephone calls, making follow-up phone calls and providing victim advocates with victims/survivors’ intake information.

¨ Identify victims/survivors of impaired driving crashes by way of newspaper articles, police reports or other means. Send a MADD We Care Card to these victims/survivors as a primary contact and provide victim advocates with victims/survivors’ intake information for follow-up.

¨ Create, maintain and update community resource information in paper and/or electronic format for distribution to victims/survivors and victim advocates.

¨ Distribute MADD Victim Services materials to victims/survivors and community partners as requested by mail, e-mail or in-person.

¨ Assist in the maintenance of accurate paperwork according to MADD and grant guidelines by filing documents in case files or providing forms to the appropriate personnel.

¨ Provide administrative support in the development, facilitation and implementation of victim/survivor programs as needed.

¨ Other administrative duties as requested.

Volunteers make no-sew fleece blankets and add a stuffed animal to make blanket buddies! These are given to children living in crisis shelters, in the hospital or to other area nonprofit organizations.

Do you have a Big Heart and Time to Share? 

Many of our clients with Health Sense Hospice live at home and are often without companionship wihile family members work or take care of other matters.  We will tailor your time and talents to fit our patient's needs. 

You will receive orientation and training to ensure you are comfortable and fully prepared before any visits to patients are made.  

Here are some of the activities you could volunter for:  Reading - Visiting/Listening - Running Errands - Talking a Walk - Writing Notes/Letters - Caring for a pet (feeding, walking, general attention) -Very light housework (dishes, sweeping, etc) - Playing a Instrument - Singing - Carpentry - Hair Care - Sewing - Child Care - Art Work - Calligraphy - Lawn Care - Photography - Auto Repair - Phone Calls 

Volunteers must have reliable transportation. We cover a 5 county area but we will match you with a patient in your area.

Recent success stories of volunteers:

Two books were written and one published with different patients from a previously inexperienced volunteer. This volunteer has become so experienced and valued with our team and the families of the patients that he was a key speaker at the memorial of his patient.

Audiobooks have been delivered and improved the quality of life of a patient to the point where all staff noticed how much happier the patient had become. The individual attention that the volunteer provided made the patient open up that they missed reading so they filled the need with audiobooks.

At the Thinkery, we actively encourage participation from corporate foundations and community involvement groups. Group volunteers play an integral role in the Thinkery’s success while helping to build team spirit at your organization. The museum can work with groups, ranging in size for a variety of placements. The schedule we offer can be tailored to your needs, and do not necessarily require working directly with youth.

Individual volunteers can get involved here is many ways. Individuals can support with our exhibits, programs and activities by helping deliver STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities to families at our museum and at outreach events. There are also opportunities to mentor in schools as part of our EdExchange program that takes STEAM curriculum to schools, as well as our Tour program. Volunteers can also help out behind the scenes in our administrative offices, and by helping with material preparations for our workshops, series and programs. There is a myriad of roles to choose from that involve working with kids and families, as well as behind the scenes roles. Our schedules are flexible, with shifts that fall during weekdays, Wednesday and Friday nights, and weekends. Volunteers can try their hand at lots of different roles without committing to a minimum number of shifts per month. We have a large selection of volunteer opportunities with flexible schedules. Hospice Compassus Administrative Support Volunteers help the staff, often through working in the office.  This support may include comoputer work, filing, copying, sending cards or bereavement notes, making phone calls to patients and or families. If you are compassionate, caring, loving and have a calling to help others, becoming a hospice volunteer might be the perfect opportunity for you.  Our volunteers give their time, talent and hearts generously and unselfishly - yet commonly feel that they receive more than they give.  Volunteers can assist with a variety of activities -from unbiased listening, visiting patients,caregiver respite, providing grief support, or light housekeeping. Do you love talking to people on the telephone? Would you like to be a friendly voice to a terminally ill patient and family? Then you would enjoy volunteering as a Compassionate Caller. Compassionate Calls are made weekly, every Thursday morning, to Compassus patients that are living in their home. It is a joy for a hospice patient or family member to receive a phone call from a volunteer to check in with them and see how they are doing, or to talk to their Caregiver and give a word of encouragement. Compassionate Calls also help our medical staff by asking patients/caregivers if they are in need of any supplies for the upcoming weekend. Compassionate Calls are made from our office in Round Rock. CASA of Williamson County Speaks Up for Children who have been abused or neglected by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them through the judicial system on their way to a safe permanent home. When the state of Texas steps in to protect the safety of a child, a judge appoints a trained CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendation in the best interest of the child.

 Did you know that there are over 400 children from Williamson County in the custody of the state of Texas? Our goal is to provide a CASA for every child who needs one.  We are currently serving approximately 178 children with over 80 CASA volunteers.  We can serve many more with your help. 

The Serving Center has a lot to get done on Saturday afternoons once our client services are closed for the day. This is our opportunity to get the pantry shelves stocked, donations sorted and priced and the area organized!

CareDRIVERS are a HUGE part of ColorCancer. They are the faces our CaredFOR (cancer patients) are most excited to see. Our volunteer drivers take boxes and boxes of at-home care supplies to our CaredFOR, making their day. 

ColorCancer CareDRIVERS will work closely with our team to coordinate delivery to patients at local cancer centers, directly to patient homes, or other convenient locations for the CareBOX recipients.

clubGEN is an after school program for girls in grades 3-8. At clubGEN, girls are surrounded with positive role models they can relate to for connection, inspiration, and guidance. Weekly interactive, fun sessions incorporate a research-based curriculum designed exclusively for clubGEN. With support from their club leaders, peers and volunteers, clubGEN equips girls with the skills and awareness they need to navigate the pressures of the teen years.

Topics covered: body Image, media literacy, positive self talk, puberty, bullying, career exploration, confidence, financial literacy, goal setting, healthy eating and physical fitness, healthy relationships, substance abuse, stress management and team building.

English as a Second Language Teacher's Assistant

Learning basic English is essential to the success of our residents; without this skill many will find it hard to get a job, pay their bill or even decipher the bus schedule. You can be a part of helping our families! Foundation Communities’ ESL classes are now being offered Monday through Thursday each week from 9-11am and 6:30-8:30 pm at our a Trails at Vintage Creek Learning Center. 

1.5 hour volunteer orienation required.

Learning Center volunteers work with elementary aged students to provide one on one or small group homework help and general assistance during enrichment activities based on the needs of the learning center staff and students.  Somes sites also have a teen program if you prefer to work with older students.  If you have a specific passion or talent that you would like to share with the students please let me know or talk directly with your learning center coordinator on your first day to volunteer.   They are always looking for people to create and lead enrichment activities with the kids.

 Purpose: To help school age children to acquire basic reading, math and writing skills to meet self-identified goals.

Place of Work: One-to-one tutoring will occur at the Round Rock Housing Authority Neighborhood Outreach Center in the computer room or scheduled venue.

Hours: Schedule is to be determined by the tutor and coordinator.

 Duration of Work: The volunteer should plan to work with that student seasonally e.g. Fall, Spring, and or Summer 1-2 hours. 

Volunteer Qualifications:

4. Encouraging the student to respond to difficult materials by being supportive rather than critical of his/her mistakes.

5. Seeking to understand the psychological, emotional, and physical problems that may cause a student to have difficulty learning to read.

6. Meeting regularly and punctually.  

An Administrative Volunteer provides office support via general clerical duties such as filing, copying, or phone calls.

As a Direct Care Volunteer you can provide companionship to the patient and respite care for the caregiver. Visits can be at a patient's home or at an assisted living facility.

Walk shelter dogs to allow them to get exercise, relieve themselves, socialize, and get out of the shelter for a while. You choose the size of dog you feel comfortable walking.

Give the dogs affection and attention. Brushing and bathing as needed. Be able to talk to customers about the dog if asked.

Watch D.O.G.S. is an innovative program of the National Center of Fathering focusing on prevention of violence in our nation's schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:

1) to provide an unobtrusive presence in the schools, and
2) to be a positive and active role-model for
students at their school.
