LifeSteps provides court-mandated classes for DWI and DUI offenders. Most of these offenders have had their license suspended and must pay fines and fees/surcharges through the State's Driver's Responsibility Program. Many of these clients could qualify as indigent and have their surcharges waived. Others could apply for an Occupational Driver's License. The application process for a waiver or a ODL is complicated. Some technical assistance would be beneficial. The volunteers assisting would meet with the client (here at LifeSteps). The meeting would be to:
- Verify indigence and guide the client through the paperwork to qualify for a waiver of surcharges from the DPS, or
- To assist those who do not qualify as indigent to fill out the paperwork for an Occupational Driver’s License.
