Who We Are
NAMI Central Texas is dedicated to improving the lives of all individuals affected by mental illness through education, support and advocacy programs.
Founded in 1984, NAMI Central Texas, formerly NAMI Austin, is a member of the largest grassroots mental health organization in the United States, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Through innovative education, support and advocacy programs, we are changing the way our community addresses mental health.
We will provide guidance and resources to promote communication and education in Central Texas by:
- Combating stigma through education and raising public awareness that mental illnesses affect everyone and treatment works;
- Joining all partners of the mental health system toward the common goal of a comprehensive, recovery-based model that meets the needs of all persons with serious mental illnesses in the community;
- Empowering interested community stakeholders to become informed participants at the national, state, county and local level.
What We Do
We offer no-cost classes and support groups for people affected by mental illness and their loved ones as well as education and training for schools, workplaces, faith communities and neighborhoods. With more than nine education programs—including community meetings and other outreach—NAMI Central Texas is a vital resource for individuals and families when they need a place to turn.
