Who We Are

Athletes train during after school hours with certified coaches and volunteers for approximately eight weeks prior to the Area level competition for Central Texas. During the training season there are usually scrimmage/game opportunities in preparation for the Area 13 (District level) competitions with other Central Texas teams.

Volunteers are the lifeline of Round Rock Special Olympics. Many adults and secondary student groups volunteer for community service hours, in addition to their desire to make a difference. Many become Unified Sports Partners or key volunteers, developing friendships and social connections with our athletes that carry forward in school and in the community.

What We Do

Vision: Special Olympics Texas aspires to be the premier provider of Special Olympics training and competition in the world. The organization strives to be cutting-edge, approaching each endeavor with a single intent - to improve the quality of life for the athletes.  RRISD Special Olympics seeks to be the premier provider of school-based Special Olympics programs in Texas, and to serve as the model by which others will compare.

Mission: The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for person with intellectual disabilities and other closely related developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic Athletes and the community.

Who participates:  An athlete must be a student in RRISD and identified as having an intellectual disability or a closely related developmental disability.  An athlete may begin training at age 8, and can remain active in RRISD Special Olympics until graduation or when RRISD 18+ transition services are discontinued.
