What We Do
Hernandez Middle School earned authorization as an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School (Middle Years Programme) after successfully completing a rigorous development process and review.
Hernandez joins seven other Round Rock ISD IB-authorized schools – Westwood and Stony Point high schools, Grisham Middle School, and Anderson Mill, Caldwell Heights, Chandler Oaks and Spicewood elementary schools.
Dr. Deborah Brennan has served as the principal of Hernandez Middle School since 2010. She guided the campus through the three-year IB candidate process which includes curriculum and staff development and a site visit by IB representatives October 17 and 18. Before Hernandez opened, the RRISD Board of Trustees approved the process to make it an IB school. This authorization completes a continuum of IB programming for the eastern portion of RRISD.
“This is a major achievement for our school,” Brennan said. “IB provides a broader purpose of learning and teaches our students to be internationally well-rounded citizens. Our students will learn critical thinking, creativity, language acquisition, real world applications and problem solving in everyday lessons. This will raise the rigor of courses at our campus.”
IB representatives will return to the school in five years for an IB verification visit.
Caldwell Heights, Double File Trail, Herrington, Robertson, Teravista and Union Hill elementary school students will attend Hernandez for middle school.
The International Baccalaureate® organization offers challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment to more than one million students in 144 countries. These programs encourage students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world. MYP prepares these students for the IB Diploma Programme.
